My Obsessions: Martina Mondadori

From morning espresso rituals to Murano glass and maximalist interiors, Cabana Magazine founder Martina Mondadori reveals the obsessions that fuel her globe-trotting, pattern-filled world

Martina Mondadori

As founder and editor-in-chief of Cabana, Martina Mondadori has built a world where art, design and craftsmanship meet in exquisite harmony. Born in Milan to one of Italy’s great publishing families, she launched Cabana Magazine in 2014 as a love letter to beauty, interiors and the handmade.

Today, Cabana has evolved into a lifestyle universe—spanning collectable glassware, patterned table linens, furniture and objets that celebrate artisanal craft. This season, she brings that same aesthetic to Sloane Street, with the opening of the Cabana Holiday Pop-Up—a treasure trove of richly patterned pieces and gifts imbued with her inimitable sense of style. Here, she shares the objects, rituals and obsessions that shape her richly layered world.

I’m reading…
The latest stories on Cabana’s Substack—it features contributions from friends and people who inspire me, so it’s a wonderful way to stay connected and discover new perspectives that fuel my creativity.

My fridge is never without…
Fresh fruit and vegetables—it’s the Italian in me. And good bresaola, always.

I’m watching…
Nobody Wants This. It feels like the entire world is watching it at the moment, doesn’t it?

The last thing I bought and cherished…
A new Ulla Johnson dress that is perfect for the holiday festivities! Her designs always make me feel confident and just myself.

I’m known for…
My ability to find pattern and colour inspiration in the most unexpected places. My office is a giant mood board of textiles, travel memories, and treasures that have caught my eye over the years.

When no one is around, I like to…
Appreciate the silence! I’m almost never alone, so a quiet house means time to read, light one of our new Cabana candles, and take pleasure in the small, mundane rituals that ground me.

I never miss…
My morning coffee—it’s sacred. A proper Italian espresso sets me up for the day.

My non-negotiable indulgence is…
Pilates! I go weekly when I’m home in Milan and always try to fit a class into my travel schedule. It leaves me feeling energised and centred.

My mental health would suffer without…
Traveling. Whether it’s hunting for eclectic pieces at Italian antique markets or exploring somewhere new abroad, it keeps me curious and inspired.

My go-to wellbeing expert is…
My kids. They never fail to bring me back down to earth, put everything into perspective, and make me laugh. I have them to thank for keeping me young and always up to date.

The beauty/grooming staple I always have in stock…
Sisley’s Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream—it’s my desert island product.

I’m thinking about…
Harvard’s Glass Flowers collection. I recently toured U.S. universities with my eldest son, and this extraordinary exhibition made me rethink what’s possible with glass. It’s a material we work with constantly at Cabana—our glassware is hand-crafted by artisans in Murano—but seeing this collection opened my eyes to the boundless artistry of the medium.

My favourite local restaurant is…
The restaurant at …At Sloane. I adore it there—the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between elegant and welcoming, and the design is beautiful. The pasta is absolutely delicious and always gives me a taste of home when I’m in London. It’s become my go-to spot for catching up with friends.

I’m dreaming about…
The holidays—setting my table, decorating the house, and having everyone I love around me.

The place in Chelsea that means a lot to me…
Our newly opened Holiday Pop-Up! It’s such a full-circle moment for me—London is where Cabana began, and being back here with a physical space feels incredibly meaningful. I’m so proud of what we’ve created.
