Designer, entrepreneur and self-confessed Sudoku addict, Lalage Beaumont has been dressing discerning women for over two decades. Now celebrating 20 years of timeless elegance, she’s opened her newest boutique at 28 Lowndes Street, a breath away from Sloane Street. Known for her impeccable tailoring — favoured by royalty and professionals alike — Lalage shares her personal fixations, from her go-to mascara to the picture-perfect Provençal village she keeps returning to.

I’m Reading… Georgian London by Lucy Inglis. It’s filled with of fascinating insights and anecdotes about the development of this amazing city, during a particularly influential historical period.

The last thing I bought and cherished… I came very, very late to discovering AirPods! I just love being able to shut the world out and listen to audiobooks or podcasts when I’m travelling from one shop to another.

My fridge is never without… M&S dark milk chocolate with blood orange (£3). For me, dinner isn’t complete unless it ends with coffee and a small piece of chocolate. At the moment, this particular chocolate is my absolute favourite.

I never miss… Today on Radio 4—I’ve listened to it all my life; unconsciously as a child when Jack De Manio was on in the kitchen and ever since, except for my three years in New Zealand, when I missed it desperately.

It gives me the comfort that I know a bit about what is happening in the world, and hopefully it’s unbiased information…

I’m thinking about… Eygalières in Les Alpilles, Provence. It’s a place I return to again and again – a picture-perfect Provençal village.

I’m known for… My total lack of a sense of direction is legendary amongst my family and friends. If I am walking along a road, on my way somewhere, and stop briefly to look in a shop, there is every likelihood I will come out of the shop and walk back to where I have come from, instead of continuing in my intended direction. Google Maps and GPS have been life-changing for me.

When no one is around, I like to… Re-watch old episodes of Sex and the City.

The beauty staple I always have in stock… Prime Prometics PrimeLash Mascara – the perfect product for ageing lashes!

My non-negotiable indulgence is… Doing the Times crossword with my partner on Saturday mornings (and many evenings too). We are a great team, often coming up with half a word each.

My mental health would suffer without… Sudoku. When I’m really stressed, it totally focuses my mind, and there is no space for worry.

My go-to wellbeing expert is… Someone once told me to try to see or hear something beautiful every day. I generally find that very easy to achieve, and making a conscious note to myself every time I see beauty has definitely helped me when times have been difficult. For me, this is anything from dappled sunlight to a wonderful tree.

My favourite local restaurant is… Daphne’s – because it’s always been there and I love the Pineapple Carpaccio, with coconut sorbet and lime.

I’m dreaming about… Finishing my house! We moved in during Covid, whilst the builders were still working, and somehow the final touches never happened. I really want to take some time off to find just the right bits and pieces to complete my original vision – it will probably never happen now!

The place in Chelsea that means a lot to me is…  The Chelsea Physic Garden – when we lived in a flat without a garden it was a haven. The Albert Bridge – for its childishly fanciful ice-cream colours and exuberant design, and The Royal Hospital – for all the opposite reasons. When viewed from the Embankment, I just love the exquisite symmetry and pleasing simplicity of the architecture.
