My Obsessions: Anabela Chan

Jeweller, designer and nature obsessive Anabela Chan shares her current fascinations—from her Netflix obsession and her secret jazz band past, to the lip balm she bulk-buys on repeat and her favourite gelato spots.

Anabela Chan

As the founder of her eponymous fine jewellery house, Anabela Chan is known for pieces that fuse high-glamour with ethical innovation—lab-grown gems, sustainable craft, and storytelling that sparkles. Her flagship boutique on Sloane Street is a lesson in colour and curiosity, much like the designer herself.

Here, she lets us into her world: from her favourite pasta recipe and must-watch Netflix obsession, to the morning rituals that keep her grounded and the museum she still visits for inspiration. We hear about long walks in Kensington, spontaneous solo trips to Paris, and the secret past life that involved a full drum kit. As with her jewellery, it’s all about thoughtful details, emotional resonance—and a little bit of magic.

I’m Reading…
Precious by Helen Molesworth. I got to know Helen when we co-hosted a discovery event at our Sloane Street flagship store for the patrons of The Victoria and Albert Museum.

Helen is one of the most insightful, passionate jewellery historians and storytellers; She recently led the curation of the Cartier exhibition at the V&A, which is an absolute treasure to visit when in London.

The last thing I bought and cherished…
Matching shells and seed pearl bracelets for my children and me from a beach vendor in Sarigerme, Türkiye, whilst on holiday. I also ordered a second pair of the most comfortable Alaïa bejewelled ballerinas in white.

My fridge is never without…
Sparkling water and lemons. It is my ritual to drink hot water with lemon every morning when I wake up, with a shot of ginger and turmeric. I’m not a coffee drinker, so I continue the day with sparkling water with fresh lemon juice, which is both refreshing and rich in vitamins.

I’m watching…
Chef’s Table on Netflix; I’m obsessed. I love Angel Leon from season seven, his ways of harnessing sustainable ingredients from the ocean are inspiring. I recently finished Chef’s Table: Legends. There are so many parallels with chefs and jewellers: the attention to detail, the balance of ingredients, the colours, the presentations, the creation of an experience. The storytelling, the alchemy and magic of it all.

I never miss…
Walking my daughter to school every morning, a quiet Friday morning with a boxing routine in the garden to clear my mind, and a chance to try local street food when travelling.

I’m known for…
My legendary chilli Arrabbiata orecchiette pasta; and my love for the ocean and nature.

When no one is around, I like to…
Play bossa-nova jazz or 60s classics on full blast. Nobody knows, but I played the drum set in a jazz band at school as a teenager.

My non-negotiable indulgence is…
Quiet time in nature, where I am my most creative. Freshly made gelato helps, too. I love Ice Cream Union on Pavilion Road and Odonno’s on Bute Street.

My mental health would suffer without…
Walking daily. I don’t know how to drive, and I like to walk everywhere, especially in Kensington & Chelsea.

Walking my children to school and my nine-year-old Frenchie [bulldog] Valentino every day keeps me sane. I am lucky to be able to walk to work on Sloane Street daily, and I cherish that quiet thinking time whilst walking, too.

My go-to wellbeing expert is…
I love Brene Brown, and the many lessons and quotes from Maya Angelou. Her definition of success is my favourite one: she said, ‘Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.’

My closest two girlfriends are also my sounding boards and happy place. We check in with each other every day in our group chat, and nothing is off limits.

The beauty staple I always have in stock…
Pat McGrath Labs Lip Fetish Sheer Colour Balm in Wild Cherry – I bulk-buy multiples – always.

I’m thinking about…
West Papua in Indonesia, from the magnificent underwater photography by Magnus Lundgren; and French Polynesia, where third-generation regenerative pearl farm Kamoka Pearls has brought back near-extinct fish species surrounding their islands, whilst harvesting beautiful Tahitian pearls.

My favourite local restaurant is…
Le Petit Beef Bar for their incredible desserts – the French toast and frozen yoghurt with countless toppings are the ultimate indulgence after a steak frites.

I’m dreaming about…
Seeing Louvre Couture – Art and Fashion: Statement Pieces in Paris. I’ve been to Paris twice for work [since it opened in January 2025] and haven’t managed to find time to see it. I’m thinking of taking a day off and making an impromptu day trip to see it on my own – pure joy.

The place in Chelsea that means a lot to me…
The Victoria & Albert Museum, where I am now a young patron myself. I used to do research at the V&A library as a student whilst at the Royal College of Art, and I’ve always loved both its permanent collections (especially the fine jewellery room), as well as its seasonal exhibitions. The Alexander McQueen retrospective was one of my favourites – ever.
