Kiton has landed on Sloane Street

Expect impeccable tailoring served with delicious Italian coffee and a warm welcome at the Street’s menswear new addition

11 September 2023

Earlier this summer we welcomed Dior, Bottega Veneta and Ermanno Scervino’s sparkling new boutiques on Sloane Street. Now, the latest in the series of openings is tailoring legend Kiton, with an intimate space at number 49. The 55-year-old, family-run Italian tailoring house is known for its exquisite craftsmanship and sumptuous fabrics, so it is a fitting arrival to the world’s most luxurious shopping street.

Kiton is Neapolitan through and through, describing itself as a family first and a business second. It has a network of cherished artisans around Italy (including a number of its own workshops) who make every single garment by hand, no matter whether it’s ready-to-wear or bespoke.

Kiton’s crafted approach defines its signature look, because nothing hangs as beautifully as a handmade suit. The rows of hand-stitching that join the sleeve to the armhole allow it to flex unlike any machine-sewn garment, while soft padding subtly defines the shoulder, and expert draping ensures that a jacket hugs the body for a slim (but not too fitted) silhouette. Buttonholes too, are cut by hand, using only a hammer and chisel.

What’s more, all of Kiton’s fabrics are woven in its own mills using only the finest yarns. Think ultra-fine wools that drape like silk (in collaboration with its mill Carlo Barbera, Kiton has created the world’s finest and lightest wool at 12.8-microns in diameter), exclusive weaves, patterns sourced from historical archives in Naples and, in the house’s ready-to-wear offering, denim made from vicuña – one of the most precious yarns on the planet thanks to its rarity, softness and warmth.

For those who value a truly bespoke experience, boutique manager Albert Jayaseelan told us that “nothing is impossible for Kiton’s clients.” The house’s motto is “the best of the best plus one”, after all.

Indeed, if you are looking for a bespoke suit, then no corners are cut. A member of the house’s small tailoring team will fly in from Naples, naturally, to meet you at the Sloane Street store, where they’ll take measurements and advise on fabrics, fit, structure and details before getting to work on crafting a suit that will last a lifetime.

Elsewhere, Kiton’s ready-to-wear line-up is the epitome of quiet luxury. Expect simple, unstructured silhouettes executed in the aforementioned fine fabrics and with minimal detailing, save for the house’s signature red dot. Our highlights are the cashmere knits, long coats and understated polos, while the brand’s cotton loungewear set is the ultimate in relaxation-wear.

And while the boutique doesn’t currently hold Kiton’s womenswear line, Albert assures us that if there is something in particular a customer would like, then the team will do their very best to get it.

Kiton is at 49 Sloane Street, SW1X 9LU
