Something Wicked

Which witch are you? How to channel the magical style of Wicked’s two iconic witches on Sloane Street

4 October 2024

Embrace your inner witch

Witches, but make it fashion.

As the big screen adaptation of the megahit musical Wicked gets set to sweep into UK cinemas next month, with Cynthia Erivo starring as the brooding Elphaba and Ariana Grande as the bubbly Glinda, we’re reminded of how these iconic witches serve two completely opposing styles—each as magical as the other.

Here, we have crafted an edit of products to capture the essence of each witch’s style.

Elphaba’s Gothic Glamour

Let’s start with Elphaba. Her wardrobe reads like a guidebook to gothic glamour. Cloaked in a deep, midnight black, with dramatic silhouettes and long, sweeping lines, her look channels high-fashion witchy vibes. Think Dior’s autumn/winter 2024 runway with a hint of Morticia Addams on a particularly moody day, or Dolce & Gabbana’s boudoir noir pieces in silk and lace.

And then, of course, there’s the green—her signature colour, which she rocks unapologetically. Elphaba’s style whispers rebellion and defiance, much like Wednesday Addams but with a decidedly more sophisticated twist. She’s all sharp edges, dark hues, and subtle intrigue—a combination that says, “I’m powerful, I’m misunderstood, and I’m not here to blend in.”

Glinda’s Sparkling Maximalism

In contrast, Glinda the Good Witch brings all the frothy fun you’d expect from a woman who travels by bubble. Sparkling tiaras, flouncy gowns, and pastel tones define her style. Think saccharine pastels, egregious flounces and frills or anything that wouldn’t look out of place at a couture show. She would bewitch in Roger Vivier’s pearly pink heels, and Emilia Wickstead’s beguilingly feminine Capia dress, adorned with flowers.

She’s the ultimate maximalist: sequins, ruffles, and a tiara that rivals any crown jewels. Glinda is the embodiment of lightness, goodness, and extra. She’s here to remind us that pink isn’t just a colour—it’s an attitude. When Wicked hits the big screen, these two witches will once again prove that personal style is all about embracing who you are. Whether you’re drawn to Elphaba’s dark magic or Glinda’s glittering charm, there’s no wrong way to enchant with your look
