The Sweetest Birthday Gift: Anya Hindmarch Marks the Royal Court at 70

Two Chelsea institutions, one sweet idea. Anya Hindmarch designs a charity chocolate bar to celebrate 70 years of the Royal Court Theatre.

Chelsea does collaboration rather well, and this one feels particularly neighbourly. To mark the Royal Court Theatre’s 70th anniversary, Anya Hindmarch has created a limited-edition charity chocolate bar—playful, purposeful, and sold exclusively at the theatre itself.

Produced with costs covered by a local donor, 100 per cent of proceeds will go directly to the Royal Court, supporting its long-standing mission to develop new writing and champion emerging playwrights. It marks the first formal collaboration between two Chelsea institutions that have, until now, simply coexisted as particularly good neighbours.

The bar—made by Sussex-based Audrey’s Chocolate—pairs Valrhona milk chocolate with Maldon salt, and is fully traceable from bean to bar. In Hindmarch’s own words, it’s “the only chocolate you can feel no guilt about eating”—a rare claim, but one we’re prepared to accept.

For the Royal Court Theatre, currently celebrating seven decades as a home for bold, experimental writing, it’s a small but characterful gesture that captures the spirit of the place: intelligent, creative, and quietly generous.

Chocolate as cultural patronage? Very Chelsea.
