My Obsessions: Anya Hindmarch

The designer and author lets us in on the things that she’s currently obsessed with, from the book feeding her creative spirit and where she is dreaming about going for her next holiday, to the series she likes to binge and the beauty essentials she can’t live without.

Anya Hindmarch

With the recent opening of her playful new collaboration with Peanuts, Anya Hindmarch brings the beloved comic strip to life in a chic stationery collection, available at The Village Hall on Pont Street until October 13th. To celebrate, we caught up with the designer to discover her current obsessions, from her must-have beauty staples to her favourite local spots and the one piece of jewellery she holds dearest…

I’m Reading A Dictionary of Color Combinations by the Japanese artist and kimono designer Sanzo Wada. It is a constant source of inspiration, and I love to pour over it when I have time. Wada helped lay the foundations for contemporary colour research, and there are combinations in there that are unusual yet perfect, like aubergine, teal, and bright yellow.

My non-negotiable indulgence is escaping to North Wiltshire at the weekends. We have a tiny cottage deep in the countryside, and it is a balm for the soul.

I’m watching Slow Horses at the moment; it’s my guilty pleasure and it’s brilliantly written.

When no one is around, I like to call my friends!

The beauty staples I can’t live without include Gucci Westman makeup, which I love for its light feel. Day-to-day, I wear a touch of her foundation stick (£62), blush, and mascara (available at Space NK). My fragrance is a roll-on oil from Madini in Tangiers, which I pick up whenever I’m there or through someone who goes. I also swear by a handmade moisturiser from my local farm shop in Wiltshire.

My fridge is never without good butter with rock salt in it (I like Sublime Pink Himalayan salted butter) and Cacklebean eggs from Cackleberry Farm – I confess to being a dreadful cook, but I can even manage eggs on toast and a mug of Earl Grey. Food of the Gods.

My mental health would suffer without my friends and family.

I’m thinking about planning a holiday to Adrere Amellal an eco lodge overlooking Siwa Lake in Egypt.

The most perfect thing in my wardrobe is a vintage Clare Waight-Keller-era Chloe tuxedo velvet tracksuit. It’s the gift that keeps on giving and is always worn with my crisp packet clutch.

I’m dreaming about finding another embroidery by Richard Saja to match the one I already have that is hung in my living room. I WISH I had bought another to go on the opposing wall, too.

My favourite local restaurant is Olivetto on Elizabeth Street. It’s local to the Anya Village on Pont Street and has seen many family meals over the years.

On my bedside table is my diary, which I write each night.

The soundtrack to my life right now is anything by Paolo Conte.

My travel essentials are Zopiclone to help me sleep! And my Short Haul trolley with the In-Flight bag on top, which keeps me organised and reminds me what to pack as each pocket is labelled.

My favourite piece of jewellery is my wedding ring, for obvious reasons. Otherwise, a close second is a little charm my mother-in-law gave to my husband, which he passed on to me. It says, ‘I love you less than tomorrow and more than yesterday.’

My style icon is my mother—for her grace and attention to detail.

My essential piece for the new season is The Mortimer. It is a real grown-up bag that is made to last generations. It celebrates exceptional craftsmanship, and the interior houses all our signature organisational elements. For Autumn, we have introduced two new additions to the family – a lovely 70’s inspired tote that will be my new day-to-day best friend and a little lightweight crossbody, perfect for travel.
