Anya Hindmarch’s The Ice Cream Project returns for summer 2024

Returning for a third summer, Anya Hindmarch’s The Ice Cream Project is returning to Anya’s Village on Pont Street in Chelsea this week, with more treats in store for adventurous flavour-seekers and lifelong ice cream devotees alike. 

There will be a range of brand-new innovative flavours and a few returning favourites, all inspired by and celebrating Anya’s favourite cult food brands, with unexpected flavours evoking a touch of nostalgia, all handmade in small batches in Devon.

New flavours making their debut at The Ice Cream Project in 2024 include Branston Piccalilli, a rich and creamy ice cream, blended with a taste of tangy piccalilli and finished with a hint of bold mustard; Perelló olives, a deep and creamy flavour, spiked with the piquancy of sliced Gordal olives; and the nutty, fragrant Liguria-produced Filippo Berio Pesto flavour, made with Italian basil.

For those whose ice cream preferences lean in more conservative directions, the smooth texture and nostalgic taste of the lightly whipped Bird’s Custard serve should appeal; as should the delicately roasted coffee aromas of the classic Kenco Coffee blend; while fans of McVities Jaffa Cakes and Penguin biscuits will be delighted with Anya’s interpretation of the tea-time treats. 

Several flavours that have become cult hits are returning to the freezers once again for 2024, including the umami-rich Kikkoman Soy Sauce, dark chocolate sorbet spiked with flakes of Maldon Sea Salt, and Heinz Baked Beanz.

You can try all 15 flavours of the cult scoops with wafers and sprinkles, guessing them as you go with your very own tasting scorecard and branded Ice Cream Project pencil. To cleanse your palate, shortbread and a glass of lemonade or sparkling water will accompany the tasting. 

You can order tubs of ice cream from your table (deftly avoiding the queues), and mark the occasion with a limited-edition ICP cap or a witty slogan T-shirt. Bookings are recommended and are available for a minimum of two people, but the team will try to accommodate walk-ins where possible. 

Making everyday things in an extraordinary way has long been a passion of Hindmarch’s, and The Ice Cream Project is an extension of her famously tongue-in-cheek celebration of idiosyncratically British customs, institutions, places, things, household brands and food. 

Insider tip: get there just before opening time to avoid the inevitable queues and enjoy one of the most unexpectedly delicious ways to mark summer in London.
