Chelsea’s Best Sunday Roasts

Whether it’s in the depths of a cold, grey winter, or a get-together on a sunny Sunday afternoon, a traditional British roast is a perennial joy and Chelsea is home to some of the best Sunday roasts in London.

From classic English pubs to elegant dining rooms, here’s where to find the best Sunday roasts in the neighbourhood…

Sunday roasts at The Cadogan Arms are sharing, which means generous portions of dry-aged roast beef served with bone marrow sauce and horseradish crème, pork belly with apple sauce and pork gravy, a herb-baked half roast chicken with brioche and truffle stuffing or salt-baked celeriac with mushroom sauce. And if you can’t decide, there’s a special Sunday Sharer Board, featuring a selection of the roast meats with all the trimmings (for a minimum of three people).

Head chef Iain Smith works closely with Lake District farmers and other passionate producers to ensure that only the very best seasonal produce is served at No. Fifty Cheyne. The award-winning Sunday lunch menu features all the classic English roasts as well as the restaurant’s full grill menu.

Reservations are strongly advised and we recommend requesting a table in The Drawing Room on the first floor to enjoy your lunch with picturesque views over Cheyne Gardens and the Thames.

Time Out voted the Gladwin brothers’ Rabbit restaurant one of the best British restaurants in London in 2019.  It’s easy to see why on Sundays, with a dedicated menu that boasts roast beef, pork belly and pheasant – all sustainably sourced

from their biodynamic West Sussex farm and its neighbouring establishments. There’s also a celeriac schnitzel for vegetarians and all roasts come with all the trimmings.

Tucked away in the side streets of Chelsea, beautifully refurbished independent pub The Surprise has a dedicated Sunday roast menu, featuring roast beef, pork belly, lamb and chicken – all served with roast spuds, heritage carrots, greens, plenty of gravy and Yorkshire pudding. Start things off properly with a spicy bloody Mary or a chilled glass of Coates & Seely English sparkling wine.

On Sundays, Kings Road institution Bluebird Chelseaserves up a perfectly cooked 40-day aged sirloin roast and a

Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with fluffy Yorkshire puddings, crispy roasties, seasonal vegetables and one of the best horseradish sauces in London.

Thanks to a campaign staged by local residents, Chelsea’s oldest pub avoided being converted into a private home and remains a wonderfully local institution. Join the ranks of former patrons such as Agatha Christie, Bob Marley and The Rolling Stones, and settle in for one of the Keys’ beloved roast lunches. There’s usually a roast chicken to serve two, a roast beef and roast pork belly on the menu.
