The Lunar New Year begins on 10 February, when almost two billion people will celebrate the start of the Year of the Dragon, marking the first new moon in the lunar calendar.
In Chinese astrology, the dragon is the fifth animal sign of the 12-year zodiac cycle and arguably the fiercest. It is associated with strength, power and good luck, and people born in this time are said to be ambitious, confident and charismatic, as well as creative, intelligent, generous, kind, helpful and successful.
The Year of the Dragon is considered to be a lucky year for new beginnings and opportunities; an auspicious time to set ambitious goals and pursue your dreams – and if you were born in the Year of the Dragon, you are said to be especially lucky during this year.
Whether or not you celebrate Chinese New Year, Tết (the Vietnamese version of the festival), or Seollal (celebrated in Korea), dragons make for a dramatic fashion moment, and brands including Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Anya Hindmarch have created special-edition pieces to mark the occasion, many in bold shades of crimson, a colour associated with good luck and prosperity in Chinese culture.

And on Saturday, 10 February 2024, join us at Duke of York Square to celebrate Chinese New Year with a special Chinese edition of the weekly Fine Food Market, featuring traditional delicacies including irresistible bao buns and dim sum, and an afternoon of entertainment including traditional dragon dancers and face painting.
