The best coats on Sloane Street

Ready to wrap up? Here are the best coats for men and women from Sloane Street’s boutiques

4 November 2022

Louis Vuitton's XL shoulder overcoat, £4,250

Welcome back to coat season. Time to wrap up and relish in soft cashmere and wool – and there is plenty of that in Sloane Street’s boutiques right now. So, to help you choose, we have curated some of the very best coats and jackets on offer for men and women.

Head straight to cashmere maestro Brunello Cucinelli if you’re looking for something classic – and totally luxe. Our favourites are a Prince of Wales checked alpaca and wool number (wear it with the collar up to reveal the brand’s sparkly monili beading beneath), and an incredibly special double-breasted, double-faced cashmere coat, which has been handmade by Cucinelli’s artisans in Italy. It is the epitome of an investment piece.

Another brand making coats you’ll wear for years is The Fold – the precise tailoring and softly flared shape of its Finchley style will never date. Loro Piana’s cream Slater jacket, which is reversible and made from soft shearling, will also stay in style and keep you warm season after season.

Fashion-forward shoppers will want to try Dolce & Gabbana’s directional black coat, complete with power shoulders and a cinched-in waist, or the brand’s bold graffiti-print style. Elsewhere in patterned pieces, see Brunello Cucinelli’s animal print number, made from a fuzzy virgin wool and mohair blend. Burberry’s cropped jacket, meanwhile, is printed with the brand’s iconic check and filled with down for the ultimate balance in warmth, comfort and style.

Bold colours are an excellent way to lighten up a grey winter’s day, and Loro Piana’s cashmere Larson jacket in ‘red maple leaf’ is perfect for such an occasion, as is the rich forest green of The Fold’s elegant Richmond coat.

For practicality, look to Mackage, which consistently turns out functional yet stylish coats like the two selected here. Our favourite is the Shia, which features a padded bib insert for extra warmth.

For men who want a tailored coat to complement suiting, try Hackett’s wool and cashmere one – it comes in two lengths to accommodate different heights. There is also Brunello Cucinelli’s checked style and a cream virgin wool and cashmere cavalry coat – the heavy twill texture sets it apart from other single-breasted coats.

A special Rain System treatment is applied to Loro Piana’s S_LP coat to make it water-repellent, and the sumptuous dark claret colour offers a nice change to black and navy iterations. Mackage’s Kendrick and Harlem coats are two other substantial styles that’ll see you through the whole winter. Finally, if channelling Harry Styles is more your thing, then be sure to check out Louis Vuitton’s bold outerwear selection, in particular, this oversized floral style.
