Overlooking some of the more-than 4,000 trees inside Hyde Park, and within the borders of the Royal Park itself, is the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park’s new Hyde Park Garden, a beautiful terrace restaurant that offers a serene escape from the summertime buzz of the city.
The meticulously researched menu is inspired by British botanicals and promises dishes created by the talented team behind Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, featuring unexpected ingredients discovered during visits to Kew Gardens and Hampton Court Palace. Signature dishes include Gentleman’s Relish, pea and ham hock salad, and native lobster with pickled lemon. There’s also a selection of oysters available and a charming salad trolley is at hand to complement every main course.
The drinks list includes an array of English sparkling wines and creative cocktails that are fresh interpretations of classic spritzes, inspired by the Park. These are drinks designed to be savoured in the summertime, with names like ‘Rose Garden’ and ‘Rosemary Margarita’.
Set to the sound of birdsong and the occasional clip-clop of hooves from the Household Cavalrymaking its rounds of Chelsea, everything is served by waiters dressed impeccably in uniforms designed by Sloane Street menswear landmark Hackett, and Lock & Co. hats. For those cooler summer evenings, there are N.Peal cashmere shawls provided to guests.
Everything is served on ceramics by Reiko Kaneko, on tables dressed with crisp linen napkins, and glass watering-can carafes adorned with indigenous wildflowers and herbs during the day, or golden lamp shades in the evening.
The Garden will also host a series of Summer Sessions, a series of exclusive events, including wine tastings and game nights. Be sure to book your place when reservations open one month in advance.
Hyde Park Garden welcomes guests daily from 12:00pm to 9:00pm, until September. Table reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance.
