Ice cream flavours available at Anya Hindmarch’s The Ice Cream Project

Just in time for the sunshine and warmth of peak summer, The Ice Cream Project at The Village by Anya Hindmarch is opening this weekend, celebrating Hindmarch’s favourite cult food brands through the medium of ice cream and sorbet.

Following on from the Pont Street Garden Centre, The Ice Cream Project is the latest concept store at The Village: a minimalist temple to the joy of ice cream and sorbet, but with a difference. This one-of-a-kind ice cream parlour will serve a truly unique assortment of 14 flavours inspired by the playful Anya Brands accessories, which has previously paid tribute to beloved breakfast cereal Frosties, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk and love-it-or-hate-it Marmite.

Within the sleek, silver freezers lining the walls, you’ll find stacks of ice cream pots printed with household name brands and filled with flavours inspired by some of the most well-known foods commonly found in British pantries, including savoury sauces, condiments, tea, breakfast cereals and even baked beans.

The more adventurous will enjoy the sweet tomato fruit sorbet with a splash of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce

“Making ‘everyday things in an extraordinary way’ has always been a passion of mine and is the reason why I love to play with iconic brands,” said Hindmarch. “The Ice Cream Project sets out to challenge perceptions, working with the most sophisticated ingredients and recipes in an artful way.”

Available in both take-home 500ml tubs (£10) and by the scoop (£3.50), each unexpectedly delicious flavour is hand-made in small batches in Devon. Try a scoop of the Kikkoman Soy Sauce flavour, a toasted sesame ice cream laced with umami-rich naturally brewed soy sauce; the HP Sauce ice cream, a fruity and aromatic flavour with a spicy hit of tamarind and dates; or perhaps a scoop of the Heinz Mayonnaise flavour, a rich and creamy ice cream with the zestiness of lemon and tang of vinegar. The truly brave can order a few scoops of different flavours.

Ice cream traditionalists may prefer to sample the Kellogg’s Coco Pops option, a milky chocolate ice cream mixed with crunchy Coco Pops; the caramel butteriness of the Lyle’s Golden Syrup ice cream; or the wholesome goodness of the Quaker Rolled Oats flavour, sweetened with a hint of maple syrup.

And the more adventurous will enjoy the sweet tomato fruit sorbet with a splash of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce or the protein-rich sweetness of the Heinz Baked Beans ice cream.
