WHAT THEY WORE: THE MET BALL

It’s arguably the biggest party on the fashion calendar and guests on the red carpet at this year’s glittering Met Ball showed why. With the museum celebrating the opening of its new exhibition China: Through the Looking Glass, many paid tribute to the theme with nods to traditional Chinese dress and embellishment, in rich colours of the Orient like red and gold.

Show-stopping barely there gowns were worn by Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, causing a stir among the paparazzi.

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson and Jessica Chastain were dressed in shades of molten gold.

Karen Elson was in a red and gold Dolce & Gabbana gown and Anna Wintour wore a red and gold Chanel haute couture gown.

Gigi Hadid was in red, as was Sienna Miller and Rita Ora.

Diane Kruger opted for the purity of white in Chanel, Jennifer Connelly chose white Louis Vuitton, and Uma Thurman was in an asymmetric gown by Atelier Versace.
