Viva La Mama! The collection that Dolce & Gabbana showed on the catwalk in Milan over the weekend was an ode to mamas everywhere. Taking the rose as its central motif, the designers had 11 mothers on the runway with their children and Bianca Balti, a regular in the show, proudly walked with her very pregnant bump in evidence.
Many of the clothes were decorated with drawings created by the children of Dolce & Gabbana employees, looking as though a naughty little person had got their hands on a set of crayons and mama’s best dress. Elsewhere, silver rose vines climbed over nude dresses, and slogans like “Je T’aime Maman” (I love you, mum) were appliquéd on to damask shift dresses worn by women sporting jewelled headphones, a witty riff on a crown.
