Happy birthday to Marni, which this year turns the big 2-0.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Marni’s director of special projects, Carolina Castiglioni, set up a one-day-only flower market at the 18th Century Rotonda della Besana’s colonnaded gardens in Milan that kick-started the label’s year-long celebrations during Milan fashion week last month.
Flowers were a fitting choice for the brand that has, over the years, drawn inspiration from blooms and blossoms, often rendering them in playful proportions and stylised shapes.

For fall, the brand served up a wide-reaching cocktail of themes and references including Japonism, Eighties power suits, flamboyant architecture and athleticism. A complicated – but very successful – mix. We particularly loved the look-at-me fur coats in colourful stripes or with shaggy splotches of blue, and the floral-embroidered silk dresses – all in store now.
If you missed Milan’s flower stall, fear not: the brand has a bunch of plans up its sleeve to continue the anniversary festivities throughout the coming year.
