A DETOUR DOWN ELLIS STREET

Kate Moss with her Lulu Guinness Clutch

At the south end of Sloane Street is Ellis Street.  British accessories designer Lulu Guinness (3 Ellis Street, SW1X 9AL) is famous for her witty, tongue-in-cheek designs, some of which are in the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington. Her signature lip-shaped clutch bags have been carried along the red carpet by the likes of Kate Moss, Dita Von Teese, Poppy Delevingne and Katy Perry.

Gabriela Ligenza (5 Ellis St, London SW1X 9AL) is the place to go if you have a British wedding, a trip to the races, or any event that calls for a stylish hat in the calendar. Gabriela combines contemporary, sculptural shapes with a softness and femininity that flatters the face of wearer.

From head to toe: who among the A-list hasn’t worn a pair of French Sole (6 Ellis St, London SW1X 9AL) ballet flats? Kate Moss wears hers with her trademark skinny jeans; Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, wears hers out shopping; Olivia Palermo wears them with little dresses; even the late Diana, Princess of Wales wore them. Drop in to the Ellis Street store and try to choose between the myriad of colours and finishes. Hot tip: the India ballet pump is extremely popular for its little hint of toe cleavage.

In need of a little pampering? Davictor (4 Ellis St, London SW1X 9AL), is a hair salon, where stylist Apollon Victoratos tames the tresses of Arabian royalty and delivers his trademark five-day blowdry.

At number 1 Ellis Street is Yves Delorme, which opened in August, and which is a mecca to those of us who have a thing for really, really beautiful bedroom and bathroom linens.
