If you’re out trick or treating for Halloween, be sure to stop at the Cadogan Hotel, and see if you can see the ghost of Lillie Langtree, the famous society girl and actress who beguiled Albert, Prince of Wales, before he became King Edward VII.
Their two-year affair began in 1877 and Lillie’s fortunes rose and fell in the following years. She eventually decided to pursue an acting career at the suggestion of her friend, Oscar Wilde, and she did become quite famous, eventually moving to 21 Pont Street in 1882 – now the Cadogan Hotel.
Even after she sold the house and it was absorbed into the hotel, she would stay in her old bedroom. Since then, guests have reported things going bump in the night and an occasional eerie presence and many say it’s Lillie in her old living quarters.
