ALPINE CHIC – HOW TO HIT THE SLOPES IN STYLE

With the Sochi Winter Olympics inspiring a renewed passion for winter sports, we take a look at the must-have essentials required to hit the slopes in style.

Sloane Street retailers, including Moncler and Tom Ford, are offering some of the most exclusive winter sportswear this season from après ski chic to ski-pro performance.

Perfection lies in the detail

Discerning sportsmen and women understand that perfection lies in the detail. Performance and style are not always easy companions, but with the most sought-after pistes resembling a frosted catwalk, combining the two is crucial.

The ultimate ski suit is the backbone of an alpine wardrobe, and nobody understands this better than Moncler. A natural ally of sport for more than 60 years, Moncler is the official technical supplier for the Italian Sports Federation – a country that has always viewed style as synonymous with sporting pursuits.

Recently revealing the forthcoming AW14 Grenoble collection at the Hammerstein Ballroom during New York Fashion Week, Moncler’s exciting cutting-edge show featured opera singers extended in the air, and models placed in a 15×4-storey grit installation, beautifully displaying the brand’s unique ability to marry performance and style.

This spectacular demonstration showcased the new AW14 collection, which incorporates ultra-active membranes to ensure breathability, whilst remaining fully waterproof. Elevated with cunning details of cowprints and wool-felt combined with nylon, ruching and fur, the pieces make for an effortlessly stylish collection.

No one demonstrates this alliance of fashion and functionality better than fashion icon, designer and local London resident, Victoria Beckham, who has been spotted in the French Alps in a cool canary yellow Moncler puffer-jacket on several occasions. Renowned actor, Leonardo DiCaprio is another fan of the brand’s high-performance Alpine wear.

Moncler’s store on Sloane Street currently features the AW13 Grenoble collection for a limited period of time before the SS14 collection takes over, as well as a range of exclusive accessories, from bags to gorgeous fur hats and gloves.

Après ski essentials

Whether an off-piste devotee or socialite skier, there is one key luxury accessory that will ensure comfort when on the slope, at the chalet or heading to the restaurant: the glove.

The epitome of masculine style, Tom Ford has created a limited edition Virginia Fox fur glove marketed at the stylish, sporting gentleman. Only the designer’s international stores carry the exclusive item and the only examples available in the UK are two pairs currently featured at the Sloane Street store.

Unveiling his latest AW14 collection at London Fashion Week, Ford makes strong reference to the sixties in design, showcasing simple, modest and yet sophisticated silhouettes in dark colour palettes. Most notable were Ford’s luxuriously bold fur jackets, constructed from a mix of animal prints and cunning reds, purples and pinks to the more subtle natural browns. Truly visionary pieces ideally suited for après ski in style.

Fashion icon and Tom Ford enthusiast, Kate Moss, has recently been spotted incorporating fur into her après ski style in Colorado, donning a pair of designer sunglasses to shield herself from the brilliant sunshine whilst relaxing after a day on the slopes.

Travel in style

Skiing stylishly begins with travel, effortlessly transporting equipment and accessories from PJ to piste.

Sloane Street’s master of travelling in style, Louis Vuitton, has just released the latest Damier Cobalt Travel collection. Renewing the brands’ legendary history of producing the most luxurious travel bags in the world, Louis Vuitton remains the favoured choice for leading Sloane Street clientele, such as Sienna Miller and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Zéphyr 55 trolley case in Damier Cobalt canvas combines tradition with functionality, and is the perfect choice to journey in style.
