TREND ALERT: Tartan & Plaid

Prabal Gurung SS18, Burberry AW17-18, Hermès SS18, Miu Miu SS18, Gucci SS18

The Duchess of Cambridge’s choice of Christmas day coats may have raised a few eyebrows among the style set but, as far as trends go, she was right on the money. Tartan is big news for spring, with designers putting their own spin on the traditional Scottish plaid, putting it into play in dresses, coats, skirts and everything in between.

And January is the perfect time to get checked out (pun intended), with Burns Night, the annual celebration of Scottish poet Robert Burns’ life and works, happening this year on January 25th.

If you’re planning to toast the poet with haggis and a dram of whisky at a Burns Night supper you should definitely consider tartan as an option for your evening’s outfit. And if you’re not, you should consider tartan for your wardrobe anyway.

Make like Bella and Gigi Hadid, who have put a Nineties spin on the trend, or snap up Fendi’s deliciously pink coat from its resort collection for a ladylike demeanour.

Whichever way you go, here’s our edit of the best tartan buys on Sloane Street right now.
