This week, after more than 100 days of lockdown in London, Sloane Street’s boutiques are once again opening their doors to shoppers and the neighbourhood’s restaurants are ready to welcome guests for al fresco dining.
In short: at last, we have a reason to dress up again. And dress up we shall. To the nines – and beyond.
We have been through a year of uncertainty, isolation, travel bans, tragedy, inertia, banana bread, sourdough, restrictions and rules. Now, there is an end in sight and we’re ready to get our own back via the medium of fashion.
The first rule of revenge dressing? Do away with the athleisure and stretch waistbands and just be extra.
Now is the time for unapologetically dressing in all manner of frivolous textures. A time not for clothes but for ensembles and colour concepts. All pink? Why not. Yellow and crimson? You betcha. Feathers for the school run? Watch me.
Whether it’s to dine al fresco, go for your vaccination, do a spot of absolutely unnecessary shopping for something inessential but utterly gorgeous, or just for the hell of it, embrace the concept of revenge dressing with a gleeful more-is-more approach.
