On & Around the Street

Sloane Square is about to get a whole lot sexier. The Cadogan Estate has announced that Jean-Louis Costes, the founder of one of Paris’ most glamorous hotels, will open a 40-key hotel at One Sloane Gardens in 2022.

The beautiful building, which is just to the left as you exit the Sloane Square tube station, was designed by architect Edwin Thomas Hall, who was the creative force behind London’s iconic Liberty department store and well known for championing the arts and crafts movement.

This will be the first Costes project outside Paris, where there is already a flagship Hotel Costes and Costes Le Restaurant on Rue Saint Honore, and restaurants including L’Avenue on Avenue Montaigne.

“It was crucial for us not only to find the best possible partner in terms of experience and skill, but someone who shares our passion for creating a destination that is truly exceptional and inspiring,” said Hugh Seaborn, chief executive of Cadogan. “We are delighted to be working with the great visionary behind the iconic Hotel Costes – he has a unique way of creating beautiful environments for the world’s most discerning travellers”.

Monsieur Costes will conceive and develop the project’s brand, character and “soul”, to combine a private and intimate feeling with the distinguished and historic pedigree of the Sloane Square Conservation area, a stone’s throw from the fashionable boutiques of Sloane Square and Sloane Street.
