On & Around the Street

Brunch: so much better than breakfast, on the grounds that it allows for a lie-in while generally permitting one to indulge more, perhaps even with a cheeky bloody Mary, and linger for a few hours.

We’re all for it.

And with the recent opening of Sloane Street Deli, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to brunch options in Chelsea. From healthy and light dishes that will leave your halo in situ to the all-out decadence of a full English breakfast with the works, here is our round-up of the best brunch in Chelsea, ready for the weekend.

Granger & Co.

Bill Granger’s Chelsea restaurant brings Australia’s fresh and innovative approach to brunch classics to Pavilion Road, with treats like ricotta hotcakes, banana and honeycomb butter, or Granger’s famous sweet corn fritters with roast tomato, spinach and bacon.

Gallery Mess

There may not be a dedicated brunch menu, per se, but the Gallery Mess all-day dining menu has plenty of options for mornings. The asparagus and crispy hen egg with black truffle dressing, confit lemon and lamb’s lettuce, for example, or English pea pannacotta with heritage vegetables, edible “soil”, goat’s cheese and wild shoots. The perfect spot to embark on an arty afternoon at the Saatchi Gallery next door.

Kick off a day of serious shopping with brunch at April’s Café at Boutique 1, which is stocked with a curated edit of exciting designer brands, as well as fantastic gifts and interiors. There are tasty and light options like smashed avocado on toast with a poached egg and a rasher of perfectly cooked bacon, or fluffy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Try one of the extremely virtuous fresh juices to wash it down and try to nab a seat on the lush tropical terrace on sunny days – it’s a truly lovely spot.

Hans' Bar & Grill

Aside from a genius breakfast cocktail list, there are cold-pressed juices and extremely tempting banana and Nutella pancakes alongside healthier options like coconut granola and blueberries and a classic English breakfast, complete with streaky bacon, all served in sumptuous surrounds.

164 Pavilion Rd, SW1X 0AW; 0207 730 7000

Take a seat in the elegant French bistro of Colbert, where comforting classics like creamed porridge with compote and granola, or properly fluffy omelettes are de rigueur.

50-52 Sloane Square, SW1W 8AX; 020 7730 2804

Ivy Chelsea Garden

The Ivy Chelsea Garden’s brunch offering is as diverse as the clientele is glamorous. And brunch in the sunshine in the stunning garden is a delightful experience. The menu is divided up into sections for pastries, lighter and healthy options, and eggs, with variations on classics like a vegetarian take on the full English (which comes with black pudding as well as a Cumberland sausage), with grilled halloumi and avocado alongside eggs and a potato hash. We especially love the nostalgia of toasted crumpets with Marmite and the indulgence of the lobster and asparagus gratin, with a poached egg, truffle and hollandaise sauce on brioche.

The Botanist
The Botanist

Breakfast is served every day at The Botanist and on weekends from 9 am to 4 pm, when you can dig in to a full English all the way until almost the cocktail hour. The brunch menu offers eggs in all the classic formations, as well as deliciously healthy options including coconut and chia seed pot with mango, passion fruit and quinoa, as well as dishes from the all-day menu.
