The Chinese New Year begins on January 25th, ushering in the Year of the Rat (or mouse) and a tempting selection of murine-inspired goodies from Sloane Street’s designer labels.
Gucci has released a dedicated collection in collaboration with Disney featuring the most famous mouse of all time: Mickey. The campaign was shot by photographer Harmony Korine at Disneyland Resort in California and features a mix of Gucci classics and new pieces, all starring Mickey on everything from jumpers, shoes and bags to small leather goods, baseball caps and scarves.
Chloé enlisted the talents of British illustrator Julie Veerhoven for it’s Lunar New Year offering, which features a sweet-looking rodents on Mini Chloé C and Aby Lock bags, small leather goods, the sporty Sonnie sneaker, as well as a series of T-shirts. At Burberry, Riccardo Tisci incorporated an illustrated rat into the brand’s monogram and applied it to a wide selection of clothes and accessories for men and women.
Fendi took a more subtle route, with a capsule collection of soft rose gold pieces, while Monica Vinader has a sweet rat charm and Louis Vuitton has released an adorable array of rat-shaped accessories.
Red, the colour associated with good fortune and joy in Chinese culture, is prominent in New Year celebrations and featured strongly in the new-season collections so, if you’re shopping for something a little more timeless, head to Valentino, Giorgio Armani or Hermès.
On Saturday January 25th, you can celebrate the Chinese New Year at Duke of York Square, which will be hosting a special Chinese food market with a delicious array of Chinese delicacies and traditional entertainment, including a traditional Lion Dances. Stay tuned for more information.
