Sloane Street Portrait: Laura Larbalestier, Boutique 1 Buying Director

Laura Barbalestier, buying director at Boutique 1

Describe your perfect day on Sloane Street…

Working in fashion really is a passion, I think I am really lucky to do something I love, travel the world and see the most beautiful clothes. When I am in London, I really look forward to coming to work, it’s a short walk to the office and it’s wonderful to work with so many dynamic and interesting people.

What is the best thing about your job?

I love to spend time in the store, and see the customers come in. I am always interested to see what people pick and try on.

What’s the best thing about working on Sloane Street?

It’s the world’s most elegant village. I love the local feeling, yet it offers access to the world’s best things including all of the amazing designers in Boutique 1.

Best kept secret on Sloane Street?

April’s café with its courtyard terrace at the back of Boutique 1 is the best place in the city for an after-work aperitif. I am quite partial to the April’s Spritz.

Tell us your favourite Sloane Street memory…

My mother used to tell me stories about her and her friends meeting in Sloane Square to go shopping at Mary Quant [on the Kings Road]. The pictures of her taken in the Sixties are one of the reasons I always wanted to work in fashion and live in London.

Who are the new London designers you are most excited about?

It is hard to choose, as there is so much talent in London! I have to say this season I was really looking forward to Molly Goddard, Marques Almeida, Simone Rocha and Roksanda.

What’s the best thing about London Fashion Week?

The chance to discover new brands and to see all the new collections.

Check out the new season collections at Boutique 1, 127-128 Sloane St, SW1X 9AS.
